Hey, folks!
I’m in need of some help from readers between the ages of 11 and 18, so if you are one or know someone who is I’d appreciate if you could take just a few minutes to take this survey.
Thanks a lot, and have a fantastic day!

Hey, folks!
I’m in need of some help from readers between the ages of 11 and 18, so if you are one or know someone who is I’d appreciate if you could take just a few minutes to take this survey.
Thanks a lot, and have a fantastic day!

While I haven’t seen Blood Kiss yet (neither has anybody else, it hasn’t even begun filming), you can consider this a “pre-review” of a fashion, or just a hearty helping of geek-out.
Blood Kiss is an independently funded crowdsourced movie from the mind of Michael Reaves. Yes, that Michael Reaves. The Batman-and-Star Wars novels-and-Star Trek-and-(if you were into it)-Disney’s Gargoyles Michael Reaves (who has Parkinsons disease, which I did not know, and which kind of makes this project all the more remarkable).

It’s set in a classic ‘40s Hollywood Noir, about a jazz singer and a director and vaaaaaaaaampires! Also, Amber Benson (a la Tara from Buffy) plays the chanteuse with a secret, which will be glorious!

Not to mention Neil Gaiman. Acting. Gah!!!

Also and not to mention there’s a simultaneous graphic novel by Tom Mandrake (the Batman-and-30 Days of Night-and-Punisher Tom Mandrake) which looks fucking rad so far.

The premise is more along the lines of I Am Legend (the book, the book, for the love of GOD not the movie) than anything else, with vampirism being the result of a symbiotic micro-organism rather than a traditional religious or mystical or otherwise obfuscated source. I like it when the monster is half a step over into reality, because sometimes the lush velvet cape and the voivode sentiments can get stuffy.
This is in its last week on Kickstarter, and they’ve almost made a stretch goal that will enable them to improve the overall production quality to “indie thriller” levels. I’m a student, and I’ve got to be mindful of where I spend my money, but I’m budgeting in room for my support because I trust them to do this right. Since I was a kid vampires - with a few exceptions – have suffered from an imbalance between the aspects of human and beast that define them, to the point where the supernatural aspect becomes a crutch for otherwise unengaging character left stewing in sparkles, uninspired butchery, wtf physics, or cliquish high school drama. I trust Reaves not to trivialize the monster with bullshit, to write the excellent characters he’s proven himself capable of, and make a great film.
Everything hurts and everything sucks. I need cat videos or maybe a coma.
